Please do what you may with this:
Lama Sab service Lama Sab service was held yesterday at the Khural (March 20, 2010). My understanding, according to the elders, is that this service is usually held 25 days after Tsagan Sar and it may have been started when Baksha Arkad Chubanov was the head Lama of all the Don Kalmuck Lamas. A picture of this Baksha was found and displayed and shown. As head of the Don Kalmuck Lamas, he implemented a policy of schools to be built for the education of all Kalmuck children. He also instilled a back to basics for our religious education and tried to maintain and preserve our religion and culture from outside influences. This policy continued by all the Head Baksha’s (Baksha Bormanshinow and others) of the Don Kalmucks. This service is to honor, not only Baksha Cubanov, but all of the Lamas that helped the Kalmucks over the years and at a higher level, all of our teachers back to the Buddha. “Sab” means feast, similar to when after a religious service, the Kalmuck custom is to serve all of the Lamas (manyahs) first and so that they can also bless the food as an offering. For the first time, the Kalmuck prayer, Arvin Izeg-Govin Tsageen was said once again in a Kalmuck Khural. Manyah Sonam indicated that this prayer is part of our tradition and should be maintained and also “Om Basur” was said during a point in the service. Historically, all Kalmuck Baksha’s went to Tibet and looked to Tibet, for their formal training and also to our spiritual leader, HH The Dalai Lama. Many thanks to Manyah Sonam, a Tibetan Manyah, who continue to recognize the importance of keeping some of our traditions. Also many thanks to Ben Moschkin for helping translate this prayer and copies were made are in the Khural. Rejoicing can be made because after so many, many years, “Arvin Izeg Gorvin Tsageen” was said again amongst the Kalmucks. Om Mani Pad Ma Hum Last edited by Alta : 03-21-2010 at 02:35 PM. |
